Savage is the second fastest growing city in the state of Minnesota, and the fastest growing and most populated community in Scott County. One key to the city's growth is its many natural amenities, including Eagle Creek, Credit River, and the Savage Fen, all of which the city and environmental groups have worked together to protect. In addition, the proximity to both 35W and the new Bloomington Ferry Bridge (US Highway 169) has helped spur both residential and commercial development.
In 1996, Savage was designated a Star City, a recognition by the State of Minnesota for economic development and planning. The city, along with a consulting group, residents and business owners, is currently working on a redevelopment plan for the downtown area known as the Hamilton District.
